Field Wormwood is a perennial herb that grows mainly in the Breckland in short open grassland, grass-heath, on forest rides and tracks, in abandoned arable fields, and on roadsides; it does not persist in tall, closed turf but sometimes reappears following disturbance. It has also been reported from sand dunes (H. J. Killick in Preston et al, 2002).
In Norfolk, Field Wormwood is a Breckland specialist, recently only in vc 28 as a re-introduction. Oddly, one plant turned up in vc 27 beside the A47 at East Tuddenham in 1991 but did not persist.
