Common Cottongrass

Common Cottongrass is a rhizomatous perennial of open, wet, peaty ground, both calcareous and acidic, sometimes colonising peat-cuttings and often growing in standing water. Its habitats range from upland blanket bogs and hillside flushes to wet heaths and marshy meadows in the lowlands (M. J .Y. Foley & M. S. Porter in Preston et al, 2002)

Common Cottongrass is by far the most widespread and frequent cottongrass in Norfolk and it is still present in a good number of our remaining bogs and fens.
