This subspecies of Early Marsh-orchid is a tuberous perennial herb of calcareous fens, ditches, marshes, wet meadows and upland flushes on base-rich or calcareous soils. It can be a robust plant, especially in the south, and may be abundant in suitable habitats (P. D. Carey & T. D. Dines in Preston et al, 2002).
In Norfolk, this subspecies of Early Marsh-orchid is widely scattered across the county in suitable habitats.
