We spotted a lonely plant on a roadside verge on Stump Cross Lane in Southrepps parish at least 100m from habitation.

We found one plant in flower on some hard core, then proceeded to find about 20 plants in dry grassland nearby. Moving onto another meadow on the other side of the runway, we were delighted to find it in abundance.

This was the most abundant plant in some pingos on Thompson Common. The characteristic orange anthers were clearly visible towards the top of the spike-like panicle, with white anthers below.
